 An amendment to the Highly Qualified Persons Rules became effective as of 1st January, 2010. The definition of competent authority has been widened and the list of eligible offices has been extended to persons holding certain positions within the i-gaming industry.

An amendment to the Highly Qualified Persons Rules became effective as of 1st January, 2010.

The competent authority is now defined as:

  1. the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA) in respect of any employment or office with any company licensed and, or recognised by the MFSA ; and
     
  2. the Lotteries and Gaming Authority (LGA) in respect of any employment or office with any company licensed and, or recognised by the LGA.
     

In addition to eligible offices in the financial services sector, the list of eligible offices has also been extended to include positions in the i-gaming industry:

  1. Fraud and Investigations Officer and Chief Commercial Officer
  2. Odds Compiler Specialist, Head of Research and Development (including Search Engine Optimisation and Systems Architecture)
  3. Head of Marketing (including Head of Distribution Channels).
