Chetcuti Cauchi Advocates has partnered with the Malta Law Students’ Society (GħSL) to sponsor a fully-funded trip to Washington, DC where two students will have the opportunity to represent Malta and the University of Malta in the International Rounds of the JESSUP International Moot Court Competition on International Law between the 1st and the 7th of April, 2018.

Helping students put pen to practice

Our firm is proud to sponsor this activity which is being organised by GħSL, a non-profit law student organisation, and the only faculty-based law student organisation on campus at the University of Mata. GħSL’s Academic Events team has organised a local moot court for law students who will contend for the opportunity to represent Malta and the University of Malta at the JESSUP International Moot Court Competition on International Law.

Chetcuti Cauchi is now a European law firm with offices in Valletta, Cyprus, London and Zurich employing over 170 employees. The firm has grown steadily in the past 15 years since its inception, however, we cherish our roots as a Maltese boutique law firm and retain the sound values of integrity, transparency, and commitment which have allowed us to grow into an acclaimed law firm in direct competition with large international firms. Our young firm was born out of our founding partners’ commitment to be different and offer a bespoke, multi-disciplinary service to our international clientele. Thus, we welcome opportunities such as this one which allow us to help young, hardworking and talented students excel. We commend GħSL for their initiative and are proud to help law students seeking to bridge the gap between university and the industry.

Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition

The 2018 edition of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition will be the 59th edition of the prestigious legal event, with “participants from over 645 law schools, in 95 countries.” The stimulatory case will resemble a simulation of a fictional dispute between countries before the International Court of Justice, the judicial organ of the United Nations. In the international rounds, teams will have to prepare both oral and written pleadings, arguing both the applicant and respondent positions of the case.

The local moot court will be held on Thursday, the 9th of November and Friday, the 10th of November, in the Courts of Malta and will be presided by an expert in the field of international, while the competing teams will be assessed on the quality of the argument, as well as its presentation.
