The spread of COVID-19 is disrupting the operations of all types of industries including the sizable Malta iGaming industry. The Malta Gaming Authority is following closely the industry development and issuing communications to facilitate the operations of its licensees.

The Malta Gaming Authority has announced that, as a temporary measure, the Authority will be accepting all submissions in soft copy. This is a practical measure that will benefit prospective operators that are in the process of applying for a licence, ensuring that applications may be received and processed irrespective of any delays related to the submission of hard copies. The measure also facilitates any proceedings that current Malta iGaming operators are or may need to undertake with the Malta Gaming Authority, allowing remote filings.

Additionally, the Malta Gaming Authority announced that, despite the trying times being faced, Malta iGaming operators should uphold and safeguard players protection. This in line with the general trust of the Authority’s mission to ensure, at all times, a high standard of protection and safeguards for players. The Malta Gaming Authority outlined that operators should ensure that in such challenging times, protection of players is never prejudiced, and that reporting obligations towards the Malta Gaming Authority that relate to such measures are always adhered to.

Cognisant of the difficulties that Malta iGaming operators may face in their day-to-day operations and possibly in upholding their regulatory obligations, the Malta Gaming Authority requested operators to contact the Authority without delay should they be facing obstacles.
