This month Malta hosted a Europe-Arab Summit, the first of its kind in the last decade.  The Summit, originally set for 2011 but delayed on account of the successive political revolutions in Maghreb and other North African states, brought together the heads of state or government of Algeria, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Tunisia and France, Italy, Malta, Portugal and Spain.

The heads of state or government of these countries met in Malta and addressed various issues with a view to strengthen their co-operation in matters of the economy, security, immigration and promote democracy.  Malta’s geographical location and economic stability make it ideal as a destination for dialogue between Northern African States and the European mainland.
