Malta's Growing Aviation Industry

Inaugurated in May 2012, the Malta Aviation Park has attracted considerable international success.  It proudly boasts of hosting strong players in the aviation industry, such as Lufthansa Technik, SR Technics Group, Rolls Royce, MCM and Medavia.  This success, as well as the success of other industries which have been growing from strength to strength on the island, was acclaimed in the International Monetary Fund’s Article IV Consultation Report issued last week.  The Report described the Malta Remote Gaming, Financial Services, Call Centers, and Aviation Services industries as ‘buoyant’.

The Malta Aviation Park

In the inauguration of the €17 million Aviation Park at Safi, Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi described the event as a milestone in the country's development and said it would contribute to more and better jobs. The park will be built in three phases, is spread over 200,000 square metres. A number of companies already operate from the site, including SR Technics and Medavia. Looking to capitalise on the success of Malta’s aviation industry, Aviation Cosmetics, a Dutch company specialising in the refurbishment of airplanes, has announced the opening of operations in Malta.  It has undertaken to make an initial €22m capital investment in Malta to provide services in Malta to transatlantic aircraft, including the Boeing 747 and the Airbus A380.  Aviation Cosmetic’s also intend to take advantage of Malta’s ideal geographical location and expand its operations from a mainly European market to customer worldwide.

Malta is once again enjoying international recognition as a services jurisdiction of choice.  Its sure and steady growth has helped it withstand the financial trouble over the past years reporting little to no adverse effects.
