January 2012 hailed Malta's success when the island placed top of the list for The Best Climate in the World in 2011 and third place in the overall 2011 Quality of Life index(International Living (IL) Magazine Index). For many people, an important consideration when moving overseas is the weather. Usually we yearn to escape harsh winters, snow, rain… and dream of living in a place where the sun shines every day confirms IL magazine publisher Jackie Flynn. The report that IL published seeks to assist those individuals who consider climate as an important factor in determining where to retire or buy a second home or begin a new life. Indeed, climate is one of the most important categories in calculating which countries have the best quality of life. The island of Malta, which is bang in the middle of the Mediterranean sea, boasts around 5.2 hours of sunshine every day (even during the winter), wiht daytime temperatures nudging 21 degrees celcius even in November. In fact, frost and snow are mostly unheard of in Malta. Two countries tied first for best climate in the world but Malta was dubbed favourite by IL magazine due to its stable government and economy, safe environment and English-speaking people.Malta was favoured due to the fact that crime hardly exists, the locals are extremely hospitable, healthcare is excellent, there are no property taxes and a 15% tax flat rate is applicable for certian qualifying high net worth individuals. The regular ferry service to Sicily, which is only 90 minutes away, and the airport at Luqa with its countless flights to other European countries, including Rome, which is just one hour away by plane, marks the island as a central hub for commuting. Apart from its top climate ranking, Malta has many other virtues which all together placed Malta at third place in the overall 2011 Quality of Life index.
