Malta has been named as the European domicile of choice for 2013 in the prestigious Hedge Funds Review Service Ranking (HFR SP). Since its accession to the European Union in 2004, Malta has issued over 400 investment services licences and established itself as a highly reputable hedge fund domicile. Margie Lindsay, Executive Editor of Hedge Funds Review, has highlighted Malta’s competitive advantage on cost as well as the pro-active approach adopted by the Maltese regulator as two of the key features behind Malta’s success.
Moreover, Malta has ranked amongst the top 20 financial services jurisdiction in the 2013-2014 ranking drawn up by the World Economic Forum. The island has also been included amongst the top tier out of 148 nations with regards to stability of its banking institutions (14th), the regulation of Securities Exchanges (17th) and the strength and reporting standards (13th). Furthermore, Malta’s tax framework has been recently endorsed by the OECD for being in full conformity with international transparency standards and the requirements for exchange of information for tax purposes.
