The Malta Permanent Residence Programme (MPRP) is being updated to remain competitive, also in light of amendments made to other residency programmes in Europe. What’s New in the MPRP for 2025?
The Residency Malta Agency is introducing several updates to enhance the programme's appeal. Here are the highlights:
Eligibility Criteria to apply for Malta’s MPRP in 2025
Applicants will now have two options to meet the financial requirements:
- Option 1: Hold assets of at least €500,000, with €150,000 in financial assets.
- Option 2: Hold assets of €650,000, with a minimum of €75,000 in financial assets.
Age of Eligible Children
Unmarried children, principally dependant on the main applicant can be included in the same MPRP application as long as they have not attained the age of 29.
MPRP Qualifying Property Requirements
Under the current MPRP regulations, applicants are required to rent or purchase property in Malta. This requirement will remain as it is, with a slight amendment to the minimum qualifying rental and purchase amounts.
- Purchasing property: The minimum value must now be €375,000.
- Renting property: The annual lease should be at least €14,000
Administrative Fees and Contributions
As from 1st January 2025, the following updated government fees shall apply:
- Main Applicant Administration Fee:
- €50,000 (non-refundable):
- €15,000 payable within one month of application submission.
- Remaining €35,000 payable within two months of receiving a Letter of Approval in Principle.
- €50,000 (non-refundable):
- Dependant Fees:
- €10,000 per each dependant such as the spouse, children, parents & grandparents. (non-refundable)
- Government Contributions:
- €30,000 if the applicant purchases a property or €60,000 if the applicant rents a property.
The property contribution fees are payable within 8 months of receiving the Letter of Approval in Principle.
