A panel debate on the passed resolution on online gambling will be held on Friday 20 September at Europe House in Valletta organized by the European Parliament Information Office in Malta and the Malta Business Bureau. Having more than 7,000 people employed in the gaming sector in Malta alone indicates that the time has come to grasp the opportunity to raise the level of consumer protection as well as improve the measures combating fraud, money laundering and gambling addiction.
The adoption of uniform common systems for electronic identification will positively prevent both minors from accessing online gambling websites as well as adults from obtaining multiple accounts. The improved co-ordination and legislative harmonization between Member States will gradually abolish the prejudice which the online industry purports. The Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, George Debrincat, highlighted the need for the Commission to introduce infringement proceedings against Member States which fail to comply with EU gambling legislation.
