The Malta Esports Visa

In recent years, Malta has established itself as a leading European hub in the technological and gaming sectors, strongly embracing and emerging into the innovative fields of immersive tech, esports, and gaming. In an effort to continue propelling itself as a prominent base for esports gamers and teams alike, Malta has joined esports giants such as the United States and Germany in introducing a dedicated esports visa.

The Malta esports visa will join Malta’s wide-spanning immigration options for gaming athletes, facilitating talent-mobility by providing a specific gateway for international esports gamers. The initiative forms part of the Malta 2025 Budget’s package to promote the continued expansion and development of the industry. The package includes the introduction of the Video Gaming Gateway, which shall provide financial support for field-specific innovation. Esports teams are also targeted through these new initiatives, with the introduction of Basecamp – a platform designed to support new start-ups in video game and esports development.
