The Double Tax Agreement in force between Slovakia and Cyprus is that signed between Cyprus and the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic on 15 April 1980. It became effective on 30 December 1980.

The two states share excellent bilateral relations. Cyprus and Slovakia share views on many international as well as European issues. On a two day working visit to Cyprus in 2007, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Yiorgos Lillikas and his Slovak counterpart Mr Ján Kubiš underlined the strong bonds of friendship between the two countries and the desire to further relations between the two.

In 2010 The President of the Republic of Cyprus Demetris Christofias inaugurated the Cyprus embassy in Bratislava during a three-day official visit to Slovakia. The opening of the Embassy was described as a duty owed to Slovakia for its consistent support for Cyprus and its struggle for reunification, the termination of occupation and the withdrawal of foreign troops. President Christofias headed a delegation comprising the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, the Government Spokesman and government officials. The President addressed the Cyprus - Slovakia Business Forum.

The representatives of the Slovak Investment and Trade Development Agency participated at the Slovak – Cyprus Business Forum in November 2010 on the occasion of the visit of the President of Cyprus in Slovakia. The event was prepared in the cooperation with the Slovak Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Cyprus Investment Promotion Agency CIPA.  CIPA introduced the economic and investment environment of Cyprus presenting Slovakia to the Cyprian business representatives as an ideal business destination for covering their business activities in the Central and Eastern European region.

The Business Forum was attended by the President of the Slovak Republic Mr. Ivan Gašparovič and the President of the Republic of Cyprus Mr. Demetris Christofias. Both presidents agreed on the necessity to extend mutual cooperation between the countries, which suffer from the consequences of the global economic crisis. The program of the forum continued by presentations about the benefits of setting up and operating investment firms through Cyprus and the basic features of Cyprus banking system. The bilateral business to business meetings concluded the Business Forum.

In a 2011 official visit to Cyprus, the President of the National Council of the Slovak Republic Mr Richard Sulik headed a delegation comprising the Vice President and former President of the National Council of Slovakia, the Secretary General of the National Council and the Head of the Foreign Relations and Protocol Desk. He was accompanied during the entire duration of his visit by the Slovakian Ambassador to Cyprus Ms Anna Turenicova.
