Financial services companies continue to lead Malta’s foreign direct investment.
The Maltese National Statistics Office (NSO) has recently announced that, FDI flows totalled €792.1 million in 2010 thus representing an increase of €250.6 million over 2009. This was a result of an increase of €583.8 million in share capital invested in Malta.
The financial sector when compared with other sectors is a determining sector accounting for €669.4 million in direct investment flows. €9.7 billion out of the €12.4 billion accumulated by way of foreign investment at the end of 2010 pertained to the financial intermediation sector.
Malta is paving its way to becoming an international financial services centre. The financial services sector has a pivotal status in Malta’s economy thus granting increased motivation to strive towards excellence.
