Last remaining COVID-19 restrictions applicable to Malta International Airport, partially lifted on July 1 to 25 countries, fully lifted on July 15, bringing normality to Malta's travel scene. Prime Minister Robert Abela on Sunday announced that the public health emergency declared at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic will be lifted in the coming hours.

The Prime Minister has this morning announced six new countries to Malta’s list of destinations considered as “safe flights”. These are France, Italy, Spain, Poland, Croatia and Greece. There will however be some exceptions. Northern Italy will be excluded from the list, as will be one region in both Spain and France, where the number of cases is still a matter of concern.

Growing list of 'Safe' Countries allowed by Malta's International Airport

Malta's International Airport is set to reopen for services to 25 countries on July 1, up by 5 countries on the original list of safe countries.  The updated list of MTA-approved 'safe' countries follows:

  2. Slovakia
  3. Cyprus
  4. Lithuania
  5. Norway
  6. Switzerland
  7. Estonia
  8. Denmark
  9. Hungary
  10. Austria
  11. Luxembourg
  12. Germany
  13. Czech Republic
  14. Finland
  15. Ireland
  16. Sicily
  17. Sardinia
  18. Latvia
  19. Italy* - new: except Emiliia Romagna, Lombardia and Piemonte.
  20. France* - new
  21. Poland - new: except Katowice Airport.
  22. Spain* - new: except: Madrid, Catalonia, Castilla-LaMancha, Castile and Leon.
  23. Croatia - new
  24. Greece - new.

All destinations opened on July 1

Malta International Airport will open to all other destinations by 15 July 2020.  All travel restrictions will be lifted on that date.

'Normality' enjoyed since 5th June

  • Bars, gyms, childcare centres to reopened
  • Religious services to resumed from mid-June
  • All workers returned to work
  • Masks still required in shops
  • No mass gatherings allowed, but six-person limit removed
  • No contact sports for now
