The primary aim of Smart City Malta, the first SmartCity outpost in the EU, was to develop a centre for ICT and media companies and create a knowledge-cluster that would foster a business-friendly environment for such enterprises. Following its success in attracting a number of ICT companies, a masterplan to develop the area further has been planned. Recent developments and investment opportunities have led this master plan to evolve from a mere ICT and Media project to a real estate project. This year, the development of a 10-storey residential block on top of a two storey commercial complex is being planned. The Shoreline has appointed Haskoll, a leading European firm to draft its architectural plans.
