Aviation finance refers to the acquisition, procurement, leasing and operation of aircraft. It is constantly evolving as new finance techniques emerge in the market, such as tax-related products and Islamic banking. In the near future Malta is going to adopt the Cape Town Convention, in order to facilitate aircraft procurement and finance. This Convention ensures that financiers and creditors – be they owners or operators of aircraft – will benefit tremendously, since costs to airlines will be reasonably reduced. By ratifying this route, Malta will be the first EU member state to implement the Cape Town Convention since the European Community’s ratification.
